Edy, Vicolo del Babuino, 4 Tele: 06 36001738 (Tridente) Roman cuisine. Moderately priced. Between the Spanish steps and the Piazza del Popolo off of the Via del Babuino. The company I booked the apartment through this past November had this on their list of restaurants. We had here the first night and found the food quite good and the service efficient and friendly.
GiNa, Via San Sebastianelio, 7/A Tele: 06 6780251. On top and to the right of The Spanish Steps in the Piazza Trinita d. Monti. Offers an interesting product - a wicker picnic basket filled with goodies including sandwiches, fruit salad, coffee, desert and your choice of wine along with plates, glasses and tablecloth. I can think of nothing better or more fun than going on a picnic in the Villa Borghese. Or if you have rented an apartment with a fireplace to spend a romantic evening in front of a roaring fire. For more information including prices click on the link to the website and click on Picnic.
La Focaccia, Via della Pace, 11 Tele: 06 68803312 (Piazza Navona). Reasonably priced pizzeria with good pasta dishes and pizza. Located on a side street off of the Piazza Navona. If weather permits sit at one of the outside tables.
La Penna d’Orca, Via della Penna, 53 Tele: 39 063202898 (Tridente). Seafood/fish. Right across the street from the Hotel Locando. A relaxed and friendly restaurant with moderately priced dishes.
Osteria Le mani in Pasta, Via dei Genovesi, 37 (Trastevere) Tele: 06 5816017. The prices are terrific as is the pasta. I stop in for lunch and had the best Pasta Carbonara. The cost for two was around 42 Euros and included an antipasta, pasta dish, half litre of the house wine and cheese plates for a final course.
Osteria St. Ana, Via della Penna, 68/69 (Tridente) Tele: 06.3610291. Moderately priced seafood restaurant near the Hotel Locando. Casual setting. Closed Sundays.
Papa Baccus, Via Toscana, 36 Tele: 06 42742808 (Veneto area) Tuscan cuisine. Not cheap, my lunch was about 104 Euros for two (including a half bottle of wine), but it was pleasant and the food quite good. You might say a bit of Tuscany in Rome both in food and decor. Upscale setting. Closed Sundays.
Ristorante Asinocotto, Via del Vascellari 48, (Travestere) Tele: 06 5898985. Roman cuisine. Appetizing and creative dishes. Moderate to expensive with a good wine list. Refined decor with a casual and friendly atmosphere. Reservations advisable. Closed Mondays.
Ristorante Kosher - La Taverna del Ghetto, Via Portico d’ Ottavia, 8 Tele: 06 68809771 (Jewish Ghetto). Moderately priced. Great place to go for lunch to have the famous Roman Jewish dish “Carciofi alla Giudea” (artichokes) and pasta. Since it’s kosher you will have to go somewhere else for a cappuccino.
Ristorante Spirito DiVino, Via dei Genovesi, 31 a/b Tele: 06 5896689 (Trastevere). Moderate - Expensive. Traditional Roman dishes. Oozes atmosphere - the building at one time was a synogogue. Open for dinner only. I went here for my last night and though the food and service good.
Ristorante Il Tempio di Iside, Via Pietrp Verri, 11 (Via Labicana) Tele: 06 7004741 (Monti and San Giovanni area). Fresh seafood at reasonable prcies (this is my favorite seafood restaurant). You start off with a complimentary glass of Prisecoand and a delicious little nibble to munch on while you decide on what to eat. I like to start off as an appetizer their tasting dish, which consists of something like 4 or five different small portioned appetizers selected by the chef. I than select an entree. Sometimes before my main course I will have a pasta depending on how hungry I am. The staff are exceptionally gracious. Reservations a must. definitely recommended. Closed Sundays. About a 10 or 15 minute walk from the Colosseo metro stop.
Ristorante - Vineria Le Sorelle, Via Belsiana 30 Tele: 06 6794969.Mediterranean cuisine. Moderate - Expensive. Bright and cheerful decor with a beautiful barrel vaulted ceiling. The pastas are especially good. The menu is posted on the web site. Located near the Spanish Steps.
Sora Margherita, P.zza delle Cinque Scole, 30 Tele: 06 6874216 (Jewish Ghetto). Inexpensive. This no frills osteria is famous with locales and tourists alike for the delicious Roman Jewish dishes (not kosher) at incredible prices. Be sure to try the “Carciofi alla Giudea” (artichokes).....they are delicious. Closed Mondays.
Trattoria e Pizzeria Dal Pollarolo 1936, Via di Ripetta, 4/5 (Tridente). Great place to go if you are in the mood for something simple like pizza or pasta. Closed Thursday. Located right off the Piazza del Popolo.
